What if tomorrow never came because your today was cut short. None of us can predict the future, but we all can be prepared for it. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17) Life is too short and eternity is too long for us not to take the commandments of God seriously. The foolish man in Luke 12 had to learn this very lesson. “But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night [not tomorrow] thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?” Luke 12:20). Many have become deceived by time, yet time has a limit – eternity does not. For most, time ran out and they opened their eyes in eternity – unprepared, condemned and lost forever.
Jesus indicates that there will be a last day. Hear Him, “He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day” (John 12:48).
Paul echoes Jesus’ words. He declares, “Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead” (Acts 17:31).
The Hebrews writer affirms those same sentiments when he observes, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27).
One day tomorrow will not come for us, either because we have died or because Christ has returned. Either way we need to be prepared because everyday that we live could be the last day.
